'Hopefully the season continues and they can go up' - Kemar Roofe reveals wish for Leeds United

Kemar Roofe says he wants the English season to resume so that Leeds United can earn promotion.

Roofe departed Elland Road in the summer of 2019 to move to Belgian giants Anderlecht.

The coronavirus pandemic has suspended elite football across the globe and Roofe's current employers are no different, with their season also put on hold.

The 27-year-old was asked, during an interview with radio station talkSPORT, about his former clubs and whether he still follows their progress.

And Roofe, who has also represented West Brom and Oxford earlier in his career, had special praise for the Whites in particular - and that he hopes the Championship leaders get the chance to finish the job this term and earn promotion.

"They all mean something to me, especially Leeds," Roofe said.

“They are a massive club and I still have a lot of friends there.

"I still watch them every week and see how they are doing.

"The most important thing is to stay safe and stay at home and take all the correct steps to not get the virus and not spread it.

“It’s more important than football. Hopefully the season will continue again soon and Leeds will be promoted.”

Roofe, who scored 28 goals in 110 games for Leeds, was especially frustrated at the suspension of matches as he was just about to return following an injury lay-off.

“I picked up a knock in the winter break and I was getting back to full fitness and then this happened,” added Roofe.

“The timing was terrible. When I was about to make a return things got cancelled.

“You have to look at the bright side; it’s given me more time to get stronger and get my fitness up even more.

“Also to miss football even more, which is a good thing; not being able to play it it motivates you a bit more to get back.

“Every day, all the players and staff are in contact with each other through video calls and messaging just so we can get our exercises sent over and monitored every day.”
