'Hopefully, I can help the team lift the trophy': Will Smeed thrilled to join Pretoria Capitals for SA20

English top-order batter Will Smeed has shared his excitement about joining the Pretoria Capitals for the upcoming season of the SA20 league. The 23-year-old Somerset cricketer conveyed his enthusiasm in a video message to fans.

"I am super excited to be part of the upcoming season of the SA20," Smeed said, brimming with excitement.

Reflecting on the moment he was signed, Smeed added, "I was buzzing when I got the news. I’ve spent the last couple of years watching the competition and was desperate to go out there. I was really happy that it came off this time."

Smeed is also looking forward to experiencing South Africa, its cricketing culture, and playing in front of passionate fans.

"I loved South Africa when I was out there before. I’m super excited to see different parts of the country and the grounds. I’ve heard great things about the South African crowds," he said.

The young batter also spoke about his new teammates at Pretoria Capitals, expressing eagerness to integrate into the squad.

"Migael Pretorius was the overseas player at Somerset this year, so I spent some time with him. [Will] Jacks I obviously know, and I’ve spoken a bit with Jimmy Neesham since we’re staying in the same hotel," Smeed shared.

He also fondly recalled a message from captain Wayne Parnell welcoming him to the team.

"I received a nice message from Wayne Parnell, the captain, when I signed, saying he’s really looking forward to having me in the group. It looks like an awesome team to be part of. With the new coach, Jonathan Trott, I’m really excited to work with him and learn from the experienced players in the squad," he said.

Smeed, who has already played 101 T20 games, is eager to make his mark in the league.

"I’m really excited to play. Hopefully, I can bring some entertainment, win games, and help the team lift the trophy for the fans," he concluded.
