'Hopefully Forest weren't watching' - Brilliant Brennan Johnson strengthens case for early return

The spotlight on Nottingham Forest youngster Brennan Johnson only grew stronger on Saturday, as he scored twice for Lincoln City in a 4-0 win over Northampton.

The 19-year-old Wales international scored his third and fourth goals for the Imps as he further enhanced his reputation during a season-long loan in League One.

Forest could look to cut short his stay with Michael Appleton's team though and bring him back to the City Ground next month.

He already had four assists in 14 games playing mostly as a number 10 as he produces a series of dynamic performances.

Johnson had missed chances in Lincoln's recent defeat to Sunderland, so Appleton was pleased with his response.

“The message during the week was ‘stick with it’,” Appleton said

“We’ve had to face a few challenges along the way and today was another one in a difficult game.

“It was good for Brennan that he got his goals. He’s got a lot of assists for us so far, he probably wants some more for himself.”

Lincoln moved level on points with League One leaders Portsmouth with an emphatic win. They sealed victory with two late goals from Johnson, lifting a classy finish over Steve Arnold after 83 minutes and then tucking one into the bottom corner in added time.

Our sister title, Lincolnshire Live, are well aware Johnson could be recalled, writing in their player ratings....

Brennan Johnson: Two superb finishes amid a cracking all-round performance. Hopefully Forest weren’t watching! 9/10
