Hope for HMV in Leeds with claims the store could stay open

Many Leeds city centre shoppers were sad to see closing down signs erected at HMV in mid-June , in a move that was perhaps unsurprising given the chain's financial struggles.

Early in 2019 HMV was saved from administration by Canadian company Sunrise Records, but the closure of 27 stores across the country reflected the problems the chain was facing.

It looked like curtains for a store that has been a mainstay in Leeds for so many years, yet there may be a lifeline after all.

A source has told LeedsLive that there is still hope that an agreement can be reached with the landlord to keep the store open.

It is reported that conversations have been taking place to try and save the store.

Originally it was suggested that The Core Shopping Centre unit would close by the end of July, and now we will have to wait and see what happens next.

We have contacted HMV for a comment on the situation, and have not received a response as of yet.
