GAA chiefs will lay out a 'Return to Play' plan tonight which will include plans to hold 2020 club and inter-county championships.
Pitches around the country are likely to reopen by at least June 29 - three weeks earlier than previously planned, and could even be opened as early as June 8.
Club championships could start towards the end of July and inter-county football and hurling championships are likely to get underway in October.
Non-contact training in small groups could possibly be allowed from June 8 also.
Social distancing measures will be required at GAA pitches, new hygiene protocols will be put in place and Covid-19 officers will be appointed by clubs to supervise reopening of facilities.
The plan will be announced this evening after the Government states its plans for the next phase of easing restrictions - Phase 3.
GAA plans for a return have been accelerated by the significant drop in coronavirus cases and the 'R' infection rate number declining in recent weeks.
A Covid-19 advisory group was set up to size up the feasibility of Gaelic games returning.
It had appeared that there was little hope for a return to playing matches following GAA President John Horan's comments on The Sunday Game a month ago.
Horan had stated that he didn't see how matches could be held while social distancing measures remained in place.
A return to games soon looks to be on the cards, however, despite Covid-19 measures likely stopping large numbers of supporters from attending games.
