Chelsea and Liverpool were one of several teams linked with Dayot Upamecano before the defender's move to Bayern Munich was announced.
On Sunday, the Bundesliga giants confirmed the RB Leipzig star will officially complete transfer to the Allianz Arena when the summer window opens in July.
"We’re happy that we’ve been able to sign Dayot Upamecano for FC Bayern Munchen," sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic told the club's official website. "We’re convinced that Dayot will be a very important member of our team in the coming years."
Bayern will activate the 42.5 million euros (£37m) release clause in Upamecano's contract at Leipzig and he has agreed terms on a five-year deal with the former.
Whilst missing out on Upamecano can be seen as a blow, it's a transfer that could actually benefit Chelsea as the Frenchman could be the replacement for David Alaba.
The Austria international is set to become a free agent at the end of the season when his contract at Bayern Munich expires with Thomas Tuchel and Chelsea transfer chief Marina Granovskaia being told they should pursue a deal for the 27-year-old.
And it might turn out that not signing Upamecano was a good idea.
For the first time since his transfer to Bayern was announced, the Frenchman was in action for RB Leipzig against Liverpool in a Champions League round of 32 tie.
Many Blues and Reds supporters tuned in to run the rule over the centre-back - and it's safe to say they weren't too impressed.
In fact, judging by the reaction on social media, it would appear that some Chelsea and Liverpool fans think their respective clubs have avoided a transfer mistake.
