Hop Til You Drop

Established by the folks behind the Craftpital bar at W District, Hoppy HRS lies just past the open-air food court between BTS Phra Khanong and Ekamai, on the even side of the road. Inspired from their trip to Chicago and their love for street food in the region (namely hot dogs), owners Sahachol "Micky" Chairat and Phatphitcha "Minnie" Suksangwarn decided to create a bar that could serve as a casual hangout spot where their friends can gather after work and enjoy locally crafted beer and sodas, as well as hot dogs. The small and cosy space gives customers a chance to relax on the couch near the DJ booth and sing their hearts out to 80s-90s alt rock. Anybody up for some karaoke to songs by Oasis?

Hoppy HRS' signature menu consists of six homemade hot dogs (not counting the bunless option), and could be ordered as a set, which comes with a serving of fries and ketchup. We tried their signature Stray Dog (B220 for single, B280 for set), which is packed with caramelised onions, crispy bacon, BBQ sauce and melted Cheddar. The bar's take on the Chicago Dog (B220 for single, B260 for set), while overstuffed with onions, tomatoes, chili pickles and homemade sour sauce, gives the hot dog a red hot spicy taste. Just be prepared to get full hands-on messy! Although the bar opens at 4pm, you can opt to have the Breakfast Dog (B220 for single, B260 for set) should you want a fried egg on top of your dog. We also tried the extra spicy, larb-filled Isan Dog, a combination of West meets East. This hot dog isn't on the menu just yet but you can expect it to be added at a future date.

Additionally, Hoppy HRS also offers a Thai menu featuring all sorts of Thai cuisine staples from their Phad Thai (B180) to their very spicy vermicelli salad (B140). We also tasted their grilled beef with jim jaew spicy sauce (B250), which was neatly served on a wooden board and sliced into pieces for sharing. However, the Thai menu seemed out of place and it is clear that this part of the menu isn't the highlight.

What is a highlight for Hoppy HRS, however, is their support for Thai-based craft sodas and beers. People who would like a drink at the bar without having to pass out on their couch can rest easy and chill out with the wide selection of alcohol-free craft sodas (B100 each) from the no-sugar, Arabica-flavoured Castown to the punchy Jamsai Passion Fruit-flavoured soda. Or if you're going all-out you can swig on their many available beers, just have a look at what's featured on the chalkboard.

People working around the area will be happy to know that happy hour is 5-8pm daily. You also receive a 10% discount on any of the bar's beers and sodas when ordering a takeaway.

Hoppy HRS provides a hangout spot and maybe a second home (should you end up passing out) for co-workers and friends alike. Hoppy times are go!
