Hoover H-DISH 700: Affordable dishwasher with smart features

When I moved into my current flat, I was thrilled that there was a dishwasher.

Likely far-fetched to non-Londoners, but so often the compact spaces lack the crucial home appliance. I don’t mind the manual pot wash task, but my busy lifestyle often would leave a mountain of plates, bowls, mugs and cutlery before I got the chance to wash them up, which would usually only happen once I had run out of one of the essential tools.

But that initial dishwasher excitement when I signed, sealed and delivered on my place was short-lived. Yes, there was a dishwasher – however, it didn’t wash the dishes. No matter how much rinse aid and dishwasher salt we fed it, the crockery somehow came out dirtier than when it entered. Costing us far more in our water and electric bills than necessary.

I braced myself and my wallet for the possibility of investing in a new one. After much research, I settled on Hoover’s H-DISH 700 – a relatively purse-friendly option that comes in both integrated and freestanding. My kitchen required the former. Here is what I thought.

Set-up

Installing an integrated dishwasher is not an easy task. Installing an integrated dishwasher on a fifth-floor walk-up is nearly impossible. No delivery driver wants to take it up the stairs, and no plumber wants to brave them to fit it.

This is a uniquely me problem, but it was the situation that I found myself in. What this is saying is that a plumber is required to properly fit the device, or someone with advanced DIY skills, to affix the camouflaged cabinet to the front. This is required for the balance of the appliance, so it needs to be done at the same time as installation.

Functionality

For the price tag, I wouldn’t blame you for thinking that this is just your average dishwasher. Far from the case. The HOOVER HI6C4S1PTA-80 is as smart as they come - with the ability to connect to the hOn app for in-depth data about your washing practices. Not hugely interested in your energy consumption? The app is still helpful for the ability to start your cycle from afar and for recommending the most efficient cycle. There are also sensors and auto programs that automatically adjust the wash depending on the load. Like I said, smart.

Of the 10 programmes, highlights include the ability to run a 45-minute speedy option - but you’ll be waiting an age for the eco setting. The longest is a whopping four hours. No matter which you select, you get the Powerwash system in all. This is made up of six jets and, much like a power washer, it is designed to supercharge each rinse.

What stands out to me is the quiet operation. It might just be the quietest dishwasher I’ve ever heard. And helpfully, there’s a dot illumination that shines on the floor when it’s on, so while you may not hear that it’s in the middle of a cycle, you won’t open the door by accident.

The dishwasher has an adjustable upper basket with a simple, easy click and place, a delay timer up to 23 hours and an Active Hygiene Protection system that sanitises the contents - helpful for baby bottles.

My only gripe? It details online that it automatically opens itself to initiate the drying process so that you can unload immediately. My dishwasher doesn’t seem to do this - am I alone in this?
