Hooters Nottingham: Readers see 'nothing wrong' with restaurant sponsoring under-10's team

A number of Nottinghamshire Live readers have criticised the FA after their reaction to Hooters sponsoring an under-10s football club. On September 1, Hooters Nottingham announced news of its plans to sponsor Burton Joyce's Under-10 team for their upcoming youth football season.

However, The Football Association has told the under-10s football team that they must cease their sponsorship deal with Hooters "reinforce their understanding" of the regulations. The governing body said they have not been by the approached by the club regarding the deal, and that "the request would have been declined" anyway.

Nottinghamshire Live readers voiced their opinion on the Football Association's decision, with some seeing no problem that Nottingham Hooters was set to sponsor the team.

Reader Malcolm England said: “I don’t see anything wrong with Hooters sponsoring an under 10s team.” Another reader Jackie Myatt added: “Seriously you do a good deed to be criticised some people need to get a grip !! My 10 [year-old] grandson goes in there often. The [world’s] gone crazy.”

David Pavier understood the caution given the children's age, saying: "I think it would of looked better on a Mens team rather than kids.. but it is just a sponsor it’s harmless!"

Simon Smith commented: “Does it really matter honestly a sponsor is a sponsor.” Reader Marie Dowding said: “So what means more people might go along and support them.”

Dave Tate commented: “It’s a family restaurant with tv sports supporting local community kids football.”

In a statement, Nottinghamshire FA said: "The County FA had not been approached by the club seeking sanction for the sponsorship and had we have been, the request would have been declined in accordance with FA rules appertaining to the Kit and Advertising Regulations.

"From being made aware of the sponsorship we have been working with the club to reinforce their understanding of the regulations surrounding such sponsorship.

"We understand the difficult climate that grassroots football operates within and urge any club seeking investment from sponsorship that they are fully aware of the regulations or contact us for clarification."
