Hooded thugs caught on CCTV vandalising Glasgow restaurant

A restaurant in Glasgow's South Side has been damaged by hooded vandals.

The Battlefield Rest, on Battlefield Road in Langside, has been left with several broken windows after the trio brazenly smashed through them while the business was closed.

The incident, which happened just after midnight on Tuesday, was caught on camera by the shocked owner, who has now passed the footage on to police.

Neighbours managed to scare the culprits away before they caused more significant damage.

Marco Giannasi fears the outcome could have been a lot worse had his neighbours not intervened.

Speaking to Glasgow Live, he said: "It's a very upsetting thing to happen. They've smashed two windows and broken the fire exit.

"Luckily, a neighbour across the road shouted at them and they ran away, but if they hadn't the place could have been set on fire.

"I don't know what they wanted because they haven't taken anything, but you can see them on CCTV looking into the restaurant so they could've been planning on taking something."

Marco, who has owned the eatery since 1992, was forced to get an emergency call out and is expecting to pay out thousands of pounds to fix the damage.

He added: "We're hoping to open as usual as soon as possible but there's a lot of smashed glass and bottles that have been smashed on impact.

"It's not a very nice thing to happen so we're hoping someone will recognise the vandals from the CCTV.

"Apparently there was a spate of vandalism last night."

Police Scotland have been contacted for comment.
