'Honoured' chef and owner thanks Dec Donnelly as TV host enjoys family meal at his pub

Dec Donnelly surprised staff at a well known pub in Cornwall as he turned up with relatives to enjoy a family meal.

Dec, who has just been on best mate Ant McPartlin's stag do down south, headed to riverside haunt The Heron Inn in Malpas, just outside of Truro, for some fine dining and his visit didn't go un-noticed by workers and customers who were shocked to see him there.

After his meal, Dec took some time to pose for a picture with chef and owner Nick Hemming and The Heron uploaded the photo to their Instagram page, writing: "We were very honoured to have Declan Donnelly and his beautiful family dine with us this evening, thank you for choosing us, we hope you enjoy everything Cornwall has to offer."

The comments thread was quickly filled with excited responses, some from fellow diners who'd spotted Dec while they were tucking into their own meals.

One replied: "We were there too and delighted to see him and his family," while others were gutted they weren't there at the same time as the famous Geordie TV star, with one upset fan commenting: "I'm so jealous!"

Others took the opportunity to heap praise on The Heron Inn, applauding Dec for choosing to go there.

One impressed diner wrote: "he is a lucky chap to experience your amazing place and food, we are down for our 3 week vacation so will be coming up the river to eat and drink."

While we don't know what Dec had to eat, The Heron's menu is packed full of very tempting dishes including Cornish inspired paella, beer battered cod, Cornish mussels, steak and halloumi and goats cheese burgers.

If he had room for dessert, Dec could have chosen from the likes of ice cream and Sticky Toffee Pudding.
