Honoring victims, tradition ahead of 3/11 anniversary

Ahead of the eighth anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake, performers do the Yamada Jangara Nenbutsu Odori dance at a shrine in Futaba, Fukushima Prefecture, on Saturday. Twenty-one people were killed in Futaba by the tsunami triggered by the March 11, 2011, earthquake and all residents were ordered to evacuate after the disaster at Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings, Inc.'s Fukushima No.1 nuclear power plant. Although the Yamada Jangara Nenbutsu Odori preservation society members were evacuated to different areas, five of them gathered to perform the dance in remembrance of the victims. "We cannot let the tradition die out because of the earthquake," they said.
