A massive fire inside the Hong Kong World Trade Centre has left more than 100 people trapped on the roof.
Firefighters are battling to extinguish the blaze which started inside the building on Gloucester Road in the city’s popular Causeway Bay shopping district.
The fire broke out at 12.37pm local time (04:37 GMT).
The skyscraper, which is home to a shopping centre and commercial offices is 38-stories high.
Reports from local media suggest several people have been hurt in the fire and taken to hospital.
Firefighters used an extendable ladder to rescue several people who were trapped on the lower floors of the building, according to Mirror Online.
Other people were said to be trapped in restaurants in the mall, according to the South China Morning Post newspaper.
The fire was upgraded to a level three incident, according to a police notice. Fires are graded on a scale of one to five, with five being the most severe.
Local broadcaster RTHK quoted police as saying about 100 people moved from a restaurant to the 39th floor when the fire broke out and smoke filled the dining area.
Seven women and a man were among the eight people taken to hospital, one of them semi-conscious, police said.
Firefighters have mobilised two breathing apparatus teams and two water jets to help fight the fire, police said.
