What’s new: Hong Kong reported a spike of 27 imported Covid-19 cases and one additional local infection on Wednesday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 1,233 in the special administrative region.
The newly confirmed imported cases involve 12 men and 15 women, the city’s Center for Health Protection (CHP) said in a statement. All of them had a travel history during the virus’ incubation period. 25 of the cases visited India and the other two were from Kazakhstan and Indonesia, according to the CHP.
The local patient was a 46-year-old woman and had come into close contact with two infected people, her husband and son, who were both confirmed to have the virus on Tuesday. She developed symptoms, was admitted to the hospital and put into isolation on the same day. She subsequently tested positive for Covid-19. She had no history of recent travel.
The background: The last time Hong Kong reported a double-digit increase in imported cases was on June 25, when a total of 14 patients had a travel history during the incubation period leading up to them testing positive.
All Hong Kong residents who gone have abroad in the last 14 days are required to quarantine, according to the local health authority.
