Hong Kong journalists have protested at the Chinese government's proposed law to restrict press freedom (see posting below, China to curb media coverage of 'sudden events'). The Hong Kong Journalists Association condemned the plans to tighten controls on the mainland's media when reporting "unauthorised information." It represents a serious setback for Chinese media freedom, said the association's chairwoman Cheung Ping-ling. The law would not affect reporting in Hong Kong, a territory governed by separate legislation. (Via asiamedia.ucla.edu)
