Hong Kong airport has cancelled all flights after thousands of anti-government protesters showed up in the terminal for a fourth day of demonstrations.
Flights not yet checked in were halted after the protesters flooded the departures and arrivals hall.
In a statement, a spokesman for airport authority said: "Other than departure flights that have completed the check-in process and the arrival flights already heading to Hong Kong, all other flights have been cancelled for the rest of today."
Traffic on roads to the airport was very congested and car park spaces were full, the authority said.
The increasingly violent protests have plunged Chinese-ruled Hong Kong into its most serious crisis in decades and presented a serious challenge to Beijing.

The airport has advised members of public not to travel but those flights already heading to Hong Kong will be allowed to land.
Hong Kong airport is thought to be one of the busiest in the world with around 75 million passing through the airport a year and 1,100 passengers and cargo flights daily serving 200 international destinations.

Earlier today, China's Hong Kong and Macau affairs office said violence in the country must stop following two months of anti-government street protests.
In a televised address, Yang Guang, a spokesman for the office in Beijing, supported police handling of the protests and urged those who care about the city to speak out against the violence.
Over the weekend, police were criticised for their heavy handedness against protesters, after they were seen using the water cannon and tear gas.
