JODHPUR: The model, who attempted suicide on being blackmailed to honeytrap revenue minister Ramlal Jat, had come in contact with the female accused who was a beautician in Jaipur during an assignment, police said.
The beautician, Dipal, used to invite the victim to Udaipur for similar assignments and pay her well to win her confidence, police said.
The investigation by the Jodhpur police into the model suicide attempt case has been uncovering several facts about the honey trapping racket orchestrated by another accused Akshat Sharma alias Sagar alias Nitin alias Cheenu, who posed himself as a journalist, a liaison officer, and a property dealer, to meet rich and influential people and honeytrap them later to either extract money or get some important work done.
DCP (east) Bhuvan Bhushan Yadav said Akshat had a case of honeytrap field against him by SOG in 2017 in which 21 persons had been arrested, including an NRI woman and about half a dozen advocates apart from others.
"They initially shot some assignments with the model and then told her they had some nude pictures and videos of her and if she did not cooperate with them, they would post them online," said Yadav.
"On January 28, they took her to Bhilwara and sent her to Ramlal Jat at the circuit house asking her to get an approval on some file from the minister. But when she refused, they sent two other girls to him with the same file on the same day," said Yadav.
The minister, however, refused to get the work done sent both girls. The disappointed accused then again blackmailed her on the same night, fearing which, she called some friend the next morning and managed to reach Udaipur, police said.
She collected her goods from there and returned to Jodhpur on Sunday evening.
"Meanwhile, she dropped a voice message to her family describing the entire episode and headed straight to the hotel and jumped from the top floor of it," Yadav said.
Meanwhile, the victim has shown signs of improvement and her statements have been helping the police to uncover the racket.
