It’s fest season in DU and students are hopping from one college to the other to witness all the fun and cultural performances, but more so for the starry gigs that boast names such as Raghu Dixit, Hardy Sandhu, Nikhil D’S1ouza and Shalmali Kholgade.
Of late, posters announcing upcoming star visits by rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh, singer Arijit Singh and even porn star Johnny Sins at colleges of the varsity have been doing the rounds on social media and group chats. But here’s what — they’re fake! The students got excited for probably nothing, but students’ unions aren’t amused!
Prateek Chauhan, president, Commerce department of Hans Raj College, says: “We first saw the fake poster on one of our Whatsapp groups, claiming that singer Arijit Singh was coming to our college on March 3 for a speaker session. We haven’t invited him for any event, and whoever has played this prank clearly wants to degrade our reputation. I mean, if we had Arijit coming to our college, do you really think we’d organise the event in the auditorium?”
Another poster announces Arijit’s performance at Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma (ARSD) College on March 7 for their fest Tide 2017. It says comedian Bhuvan Bam will also visit. But they’re not! Same goes for Sins and Yo Yo Honey Singh at Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) for their fest, Crossroads 2017. “Random people have called me up, asking me why we haven’t officially announced Honey Singh’s performance yet. Or if they can get passes to the Honey Singh show, I was amused! We haven’t decided our star night performers yet, these posters will just mislead everyone till we announce anything officially,” says Bharatendu Verma, students’ union president of SRCC.
So if you come across any such poster, it’s best to check the social networking pages of the college’s students’ union or official pages of the departments or colleges. The Commerce Department, Hans Raj College, and ARSD College have updated their statuses on their social networking page. Yatin Arora, cultural president, ARSD, says, “We have posted a status on the official page of TIDE, requesting students to only believe what has been posted on our page and nowhere else.”
