Honesty box thief hunted after 'large sum of cash' lifted at Scots island beauty spot

Cops are hunting a brazen thief who stole a "large sum" of cash from an honesty box at a Scots island beauty spot.

The thief made off with the cash from an honesty box, which contained money from members of the public, at Huisinis on the Isle of Harris.

The incident is believed to have happened between Saturday, 3 July and Wednesday, 7 July.

Police say the remote location has been busy with visitors and are urging anyone who has witnessed anything suspicious to come forward.

Constable Fraser Edwards said: “This particular honesty box is located next to the gateway building across from the beach and it’s possible that anyone visiting the area could have seen something which could prove vital to our investigation.

“If you have any information, please call 101 and quote incident 1421 of 7 July. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, if you wish to remain anonymous.

“At this time, we’d also urge operators with responsibility for honesty boxes to be extra-vigilant. Ensure they are secure and make sure to check or empty them frequently.”
