Honduras shipwreck: 26 people killed after fishing boat capsizes

At least 26 people have died after a lobster-fishing boat capsized off the Atlantic coast of Honduras.

Some 47 people were rescued after the accident near Puerto Lempira, said Honduran armed forces spokesman Jose Domingo Meza.

Some 73 people were on board the Captain Waly ship when it went down, according to Honduran newspaper La Prensa.

The outlet reported that all of the people who drowned were divers, with most of them coming from the Honduran coastal town of Puerto Lempira.

The fisherman were searching for lobsters, which have been targeted since the season started on July 1.

Richard Bonilla, president of the Caribbean Association of Industrial Fishermen of Honduras, said strong winds and rough seas caused the fatal shipwreck, according to Honduran broadcaster Televicentro.

Another ship, named Miss Francely, also sank off the coast of Honduras yesterday.
