Homophobic graffiti reappears on Salford bus stop just days after council clean up

A piece of homophobic graffiti has reappeared on a bus stop in Salford just days after council workers cleaned bigoted words from the same structure.

The bus stop by the BP garage on Seedley Road has been targetted with homophobic slurs for the second time in less than two weeks.

Written in black marker pen, the bigoted language was first reported to authorities on October 22, when a passenger noticed the large black lettering on the information board.

Workers from Salford Council headed out to the street to clean the bus stop last week, removing the offensive language for passengers.

However, another set of homophobic graffiti has reappeared on the map in the structure, leading to another report to authorities.

The graffiti, which contains an offensive slur often used as a reference to gay men, covers a corner of the map with large black letters.

When the graffiti was first reported to Salford City Council on Twitter, the authority's account said: " Due to the nature of the graffiti we will arrange for it to be removed.

"A team has been asked to attend as soon as possible."

The repeated graffiti has already been flagged with Salford City Council, and arrangements to remove the writing are being made.

Any incident carried out because of hostility or prejudice against a sexual orientation is considered a homophobic hate incident.

Both these incidents and more serious crimes motivated by prejudice or hate against sexuality, gender, race, or religion, can be reported to the police for further investigation.

Charities like Stop Hate UK can be contacted for support after any hate incident.
