'Vicious' dog fatally attacks man at Perth house, sparking homicide investigation by police

Forensic officers and detectives remain at the Morley house after the man's death.

Police are investigating the death of a 59-year-old man at a home in the Perth suburb of Morley in what has been described as a "gruesome" dog attack.

WA Police said they were called to the home on Halvorson Road about 8:00pm last night.

The body of the man was located at the property.

Police said a 36-year-old man had assisted them with their inquiries, but no charges had been laid.

The matter was listed in the police system as an animal complaint, and it is understood a dog was at the address.

Homicide Squad detectives were joined by forensics at the scene last night and an animal ranger was also called.

Both men lived at house: neighbour

Neighbour Hailie Featherstone said both men lived at the house and originally had two dogs until they were attacked by one in April, after which only a Rottweiler-mix remained.

"They got in an attack a couple of months ago and I had to take both of them to hospital," she said.

"They knocked on my door and they both had gashes on their arms and legs and stuff, and they were in hospital for like three days.

"Now there's only one dog there."

She said she was told at the time the men were attacked by the dogs when they tried to step in after the animals went at each other.

Danielle Marendaz also lives on the street and said the dog was "quite vicious" and that she had made a number of complaints about it.

"It just appears to be quite aggressive," she said.

"We've had a lot of nuisance trouble with the dog being aggressive and wanting to jump the fence, so unfortunately we knew there was going to be an incident that would come up sooner or later.

"It's really sad … it's heart wrenching because we could have prevented some of this … I've got no words to describe it really."

Man bangs on door telling of 'gruesome' attack

Mike Scott lives on the street and said his neighbour came "banging" on his front door just after 7:30pm.

"[He was] just sort of saying a dog had attacked somebody in his house and that it was pretty gruesome," he said.

"And as that was happening, police and ambos turned up … he was pretty panicky.

"Hopefully it was just a bad accident and nothing worse than that."

Locals arrive home to police, paramedics

Another local resident, Titan Wiwanno, said while he did not know the victim that well, he was sad to hear he had died.

"He was a neighbour, seemed a pretty nice guy," he said.

Mr Wiwanno said he arrived home from the gym last night to find police cars and ambulances on the street, but did not find out what had happened until this morning.

He said while he had never seen the dog outside the home, he had heard it.

"It was a big dog," he said.

"At one point the dog tried to climb the fence and all I saw was a big, giant dog.

"Barked a lot. Very loud."
