Homicide investigation underway after body found in sewage tank

A homicide investigation is underway after a man's body — believed to be that of missing man Jason Guise — was found in a sewage tank on Brisbane's bayside.

Police say the 45-year-old was last seen at his residence in Wynnum on April 21.

The body was pulled from the sewage holding tank last night — after the gruesome discovery by maintenance workers during a routine check at the Queensland Urban Utilities site yesterday afternoon.

Detective Inspector Owen Elloy said police were appealing for any information on Mr Guise's recent whereabouts.

"Investigations commenced over the Labor Day long weekend into the disappearance of Mr Jason Guise," Detective Inspector Elloy said.

"Inquiries have been conducted by detectives from the homicide investigation group and local Cleveland CIB branch.

"He's lived at Wynnum since March this year, sharing a flat there."

Police divers had to don contamination suits ahead of recovering the body, which police said could have been in the holding tank for a number of days.

Detective Inspector Elloy said formal identification of the body was still underway.

"A post-mortem is being conducted today and that'll be a fairly lengthy process as I'm sure you could imagine with associated toxicology tests being done," he said.

"The maintenance crew, I think they were certainly shocked by what they found.

"Detectives are particularly interested in the movements of Mr Guise on or about the 21st of April this year in the Greater Wynnum and in particular Charlotte Street, Wynnum area."

A major incident room has been set up at the Cleveland Police CIB.
