The woman's body was reported to police around 7:30am. (ABC News)

A woman in her 30s has been found dead on the side of the road near the Bussell Highway in Margaret River.

WA Police said the woman's body was found about 7:30am on Monday.

"Inquiries are being made into the circumstances leading to the woman's death," a brief statement said.

Bunbury and Busselton detectives have been on the scene, with homicide detectives expected to arrive on Monday night.

A tent and tarpaulin were erected by police.

The woman's body was found near a fire break about 150 metres south of the Boodjidup Road roundabout intersection with Bussell Highway.

It is only about 300 metres from homes in the housing estate of Rapid's Landing, on the southern edge of Margaret River.

Bussell Highway is a high-traffic road that runs through Margaret River town centre.

A nearby walk trail had been closed by police.
