Homeware retailer JYSK to open two new Greater Manchester stores as UK expansion continues

Danish retailer JYSK is to open two new stores in Greater Manchester providing dozens of jobs for the region.

The home furnishings store will open a new site at Bury's Angouleme Retail Park on June 10, followed by another at Manchester Road Retail Park on July 8 selling the firm's affordable "Scandi-chic" products.

The openings for the firm, the largest Danish retailer operating globally and pronounced "yoosk", follows last year's launch in Liverpool, as it pursues "ambitious" UK expansion plans.

The Greater Manchester openings are set to create 25 jobs.

Jenny Johnston, JYSK's sales and marketing manager for UK and Ireland, said: “We are thrilled to be opening two stores in Greater Manchester to make our affordable and much-loved furniture even more accessible in the North.

“Our head office operations are also based in Stockport, so we have a strong affinity for the area and continue to see it prosper.

"The Bury and Stockport stores will bring the affordable Scandi homewares and furniture that we are synonymous with to discerning and design-conscious shoppers of Greater Manchester who will be able to click and collect the same day, as well as explore exclusive in-store lines.”

It comes off the back of record results in the UK and Ireland for JYSK during the financial year 2019/2020, with total sales reaching €41m, an increase of 74% on 2018/2019.

Despite a challenging year for the retail market, with forced store closures during lockdown periods, the firm welcomed 860,000 customers - a 55% increase on the year before.

The chain hit the milestone of 3,000 worldwide stores back in February, and already has a store in Bolton.

The latest openings are part of its plan to have 26 stores in the UK by the end of the financial year.

Store openings in 2021 will include Leeds, Barnsley, and Gainsborough.
