'Homesick' Karen Gillan wants to move back to Inverness as Hollywood 'isn't my vibe'

Scottish actress Karen Gillan may be the toast of Hollywood – but she longs to swap the LA highlife for
the Highlands.

Asked if she pines for her hometown of Inverness, the Marvel queen – currently starring in Netflix blockbuster Gunpowder Milkshake – said: “Yes I do, every single day.”

Karen, 33, who first shot to fame as a Doctor Who sidekick, confessed: I’m so homesick. I keep looking up houses in the highlands area, thinking I’m just going to move back. But then for some reason I can never seem to do it.

“There’s always some work reason not to and now I’m in Los Angeles, even though it’s not my favourite city in the world. It is fun, but it’s not my vibe.”

She added: “I’m not much of a driver and I’m not much of a person to go into the sun, and so for those reasons, I don’t think it’s a place for me.” Karen may be famed for her action roles, but says she prefers snoozing to fighting.

“I’m really good at being boring,” she said. “I love it because I’m a firm believer in rejuvenation. I see some people who just go, go, go, and I’m like, ‘Guys, just sit and have a day of absolutely nothing’.

“I’m really good at that. I’ll hold my hands up to this because they gave me a bed instead of a chair.

“You know those chairs you see actors sitting around set on? I got a bed instead.”

Karen impressed critics with her action skills honed on Jumanji, which, after three weeks of intense combat training, she again delivers in her Netflix role as a hitwoman.

But she’s not “an actual butt-kicker”, saying: “I think maybe when I was a child and a girl pulled my hair I was like, ‘I’m going to pull yours back’. That’s about as far as I’ve gone.”
