HomeServe reports record visits to Checkatrade site

HomeServe saw a record number of people flock to its Checkatrade website last month, when Brits sought to get jobs on their homes sorted as the Covid-19 lockdown eased.

Checkatrade, which provides an online directory of recommended tradespeople, had its largest ever number of consumer web visits in June at 2.76 million, up from 1.74 million a year earlier.

HomeServe also has a service that guarantees to come round to your house and fix your boiler, heating or plumbing, in return for a monthly premium.

The company said: “In HomeServe's membership businesses, policy renewal and mid-term cancellation rates have continued in line with historic trends in this traditionally quieter period, with no impact from the Covid-19 pandemic.”

The company has benefited from a number of people looking to do home improvements and repairs during the Covid-19 lockdown.

While government guidance only permitted emergency repairs during the lockdown, less-essential jobs can now be done as restrictions ease.

The shares rose 50p to 1353p.
