Homeschool horror: how to make bagpipes out of a bin bag and recorders

It's day 4 of homeschooling after Nicola Sturgeon closed all Scottish schools last week and maybe ideas on how to entertain your wee ones are beginning to run a little thin.

Well you're in luck as we've stumbled across potentially the worst DIY activity for kids EVER - homemade bagpipes.

Yes, if you'd like to annoy every neighbour in your street whilst in self-isolation this might just be the homeschooling project for you.

The Frankenstein's monster of bagpipes is simply a combination of a bin bag, recorders and pens.

For those who aren't accustomed to Scotland's national instrument, at the most basic level, bagpipes have 4 parts:

- A bag to hold the air
- A blowpipe to blow air into the bag
- A chanter to play a melody
- A drone which plays a constant note

The blowpipe is created from two empty pens taped together, the bag is created from a humble bin bag and the chanter and drone are created from two PVC recorders AKA the primary school instrument of nightmares.

Looking at the instructions it seems like a lot of cutting holes and taping.

Would you like to give them a go for yourself? Find the full instructions here.
