Homes urged to compete in Halloween haunted house competition in the Aspley area

Community Protection Officers (CPOs) in Nottingham are getting into the Halloween spirit with a haunted house competition for residents.

For the past two years, CPOs dressed in fancy dress have gone out on Halloween in the Aspley area to hand out sweets to children who are trick or treating.

They are also on hand to offer Halloween safety messages and deter anti-social behaviour if required.

This year, the plan is to go slightly bigger with a Halloween haunted house competition to be judged by local ward councillors.

Officers are holding the competition on streets within the Aspley, Broxtowe estate and Bell's Lane estate areas, based on engagement from previous years.

The streets invited to compete are:

-          Amesbury Circus

-          Ainsdale Crescent

-          Eltham Drive

-          Minver Crescent

-          Sherborne Road

-          Woodfield Road

-          Withern Road

Maria Summers, senior community protection officer said: "The community in Broxtowe and Aspley really go to town with decorating their houses and gardens for Halloween so we thought that it would be a good idea to get the community together and give everyone an incentive.

"We currently have a first, second and third prize of gift vouchers to spend at Asda."

The CPOs and councillors plan to meet from 5pm on October 31 to start their tour of spooky homes and winners will be picked on the night.

The exterior at the front of the haunted houses including gardens will be judged as part of the competition.
