Homes Under the Hammer viewers rage as programme is axed from BBC One for Theresa May resignation coverage

Homes Under the Hammer fans were less than impressed today after the show was axed from BBC One to make way for coverage of  Theresa May’s resignation.

Viewers were gutted after the show, which sees experts cast their eyes over a number of properties before they go to auction, was pulled at the last minute to make way for the BBC News Special.

Homes Under the Hammer is a successful 10am slot for the BBC - and its loyal followers were very vocal about their disappointment on Twitter.

One said: “Can’t believe I missed Homes Under the Hammer for that.”

A second said: “Right she’s going, @BBCOne get Homes Under The Hammer on.”

A third said: “Is @theresa_may unable to do anything without being selfish??

“She can't even resign without spoiling the TV schedules.

“Was looking forward to ‘Homes Under The Hammer’ ....On my morning off.”

Viewers need not worry, however - the show actually just moved over to sister channel, BBC Two.

A relieved viewer said: "I thought they’d cancelled Homes Under The Hammer for the news then, luckily they’ve just moved it to BBC2. Panic over."

So anyone who has missed it can head over to BBC iPlayer now to catch up on their favourite auction programme. Hurrah!

After months of speculation, May finally announced her departure this morning.

In a statement outside 10 Downing Street, Mrs May said that she will step down as Conservative leader on June 7, paving the way for a contest that will decide who will be the new PM.

In her emotional speech, she said it was time to step aside after failing to get her Brexit deal through three times.

Referencing her exit, another Twitter user joked: Today’s Homes Under the Hammer  was a special about an exclusive London pad becoming available.”

Homes Under the Hammer airs weekdays from 10am on BBC One.
