Homes Under the Hammer star Martin Roberts opens new 'luxurious' care home in Otley

Homes Under the Hammer star Martin Roberts has opened a new care home in Otley.

Wharfeside care home, part of the Anchor group, is now open for its first full week and will be welcoming new residents from November. The state-of-the-art care home has 66 en suite bedrooms and a wealth of on-site facilities including communal outdoor spaces, a coffee shop, bar area and even it's own hairdressing salon.

The Wharfeside residency is described as being set in "luxurious surroundings", and is a hub for "first-class" residential and dementia care, built to provide a safe and comfortable environment. Property expert and TV presenter Martin Roberts officially opened the home in a ribbon cutting ceremony, before being taken on a tour around the modern home.

Martin said: "I think residents will truly feel at home here. It’s been great to speak with people from Anchor and the local community.

"It’s clear that residents will be welcomed into a vibrant community and welcoming space where they will receive thoughtful, individualised care." Wharfeside care home will replace Teal Beck House care home and residents and colleagues will be moved to the new location.

Wharfeside is now recruiting for various positions, including care assistants and domestic and kitchen support, to join the established care team from Teal Beck House. Team leader Shelley Seghetti has worked at Teal Beck House for over six years. Upon seeing the new home for the first time, she said: "I fell in love with the home the minute I stepped inside the door. From the views, the beautiful rooms, the spacious communal areas, it’s amazing.

"I can’t wait for the residents and the rest of my colleagues to see it. I’m sure they will love it as much as I do. We’ve made lots of memories at Teal Beck House care home and I look forward to making many more in this wonderful space."

The three-storey care home was built by LNT and uses the latest energy efficient technology has an Energy Performance Certificate A rating. Over 80 per cent of the roof is covered in solar panels and onsite battery stores retain any spare energy produced. In addition, the home benefits from extensive ground source heat pump technology which provides hot water and heating and enables residents to benefit from underfloor heating and comfort air cooling technology.
