Homes Under The Hammer star Martin Roberts in A&E after rubbing poisonous plant sap in his eyes

Former I'm a Celebrity star Martin Roberts has revealed he went to hospital after accidentally rubbing a poisonous plant in his eye.

The Homes Under the Hammer presenter took to Instagram on Wednesday, August 21 to share a video of himself at hospital at 3:30am showing his swollen and streaming eyes.

Martin gave his fans a "really important warning" as he told them to look out for Euphorbia, a poisonous plant.

Posting a video from a hospital waiting room, he told his fans: "Not been a good week, all in all."

Warning

Addressing the camera directly, he warned his followers on Twitter to be wary of a plant named Eurphorbia.

"This is a really important warning," he said. "It's 3.30am in the morning and I'm in A&E.

"I was doing some gardening earlier on and there's a plant called Euphorbia.

"When you cut it as I did, it produces a sap and if you get it on your hands or worse on your eyes, it causes some serious issues.

"It started to sting and it's got worse and worse as the evening has gone on."

He added the stinging prevented him from sleeping that night and urged followers to wear goggles while dealing with the plant.

The incident capped off a tumultuous week for the TV host who had appeared before Bristol Crown Court earlier this week to unsuccessfully appeal a drink driving condition.

Roberts was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol in November last year.

The 56-year-old maintains the breathalyzer reading could have been contaminated by his asthma inhaler, reports BristolLive .

After the appeal was dismissed last Friday (August 16), he said : "This is a bad day for me. But it is also a terrible day for asthma sufferers."
