Homes Under The Hammer's transformation of mouldy and damp valleys terrace into light and modern home

Homes Under The Hammer returned to south Wales to follow the progress of David as he transformed a very damp and mouldy terrace house. David had already appeared on the BBC's daytime show with properties in the area and now he was back with a big job on his hands in Ebbw Vale.

Paying £45,500, David brought the three bedroom house, with two decent sized bedrooms and one box room, in Ebbw Vale with plans to do it up and then let it out to rent. The house was covered in mould and damp, needing a complete refurb in all the rooms including the kitchen and bathroom.

Outdated and with some walls even crumbling from the mould, the guide price for the house was £32,000 when it went to auction in 2019. In a bidding war David outbid the other interested parties, buying the house for £45,500, and told Martin Roberts he would be doing a "proper job" on the house.

He said: "I've learnt from experience if something doesn't look quite right, it isn't...if something is not quite right or I'm not happy, I sort it out and then its sorted for good."

David needed this problem solving attitude as the damp in the house caused him many problems and "sleepless nights" pushing him £1,000 over budget and needing the advice of four different experts. He said: "The house did fight back on this one...my builder had sleepless nights on this and so did I."

Overall David spent £19,000 re-doing the house and in July 2021 the house was valued at £90,000 after David's work. David plans to rent out the house, which an estate agent valued to be worth £650 a month, making David a 12% rental yield and return.

David completely transformed the house taking the small and dingy kitchen and turning it into a light and airy open plan space.

The outside also received a face-lift with David changing the colour of the house and getting rid of yet more mould.
