Homes Under The Hammer makeover in Wales delayed due to very painful reason

A makeover on Homes Under The Hammer had to be put on the back-burner after one of the property's owners had to down tools after breaking his wrist.

Dad Terry, son Kieran and brother Rhys bought the two-bed mid-terrace in Wales for £53,000 in a sale which impressed show presenter Martin Roberts.

The property guru loved the space of the house and low-level of renovation work required.

However after the timescale was initially set from between four to six weeks for the refurb, the makeover was put on hold after Rhys broke his bone.

Martin was initially in disbelief when he heard about the time frame and budget of £10,000, but Kieran assured him he'd "crack the whip".

However when the host returned nine weeks later to check out the progress he found out about Rhys' painful predicament - rendering him out of action with the refurb.

Despite the setback Martin was delighted when he returned weeks later saying he thought the house was looking "sharp".

It had then been fully redecorated with a new plaster and paint job plus new windows and carpets throughout.

There was also a new boiler and snazzy kitchen designed with a tasteful black and white theme.

Overall Martin was pleased was the property, but wasn't too keen on the dubious choice of flooring in the bathroom.

He said: "The choice of flooring is surprising though," before explaining whose decision it was.

"The decision to go with carpet rather than something more suited to a bathroom like laminate or vinyl was not made by Kieran though, it was the boss of the family operation, dad Terry, " he said.

Kieran explains: "At first I didn't like it but then I had a look at it when it was laid and it actually does look very good. But for someone who is moving in, they've got the choice, they could either keep it or just lay over it."

With the team only going over budget by £1,000 to £11,000, the total spend at the trendy terrace was £64,000.

With a top valuation of £90,000 the family were told they'd potentially achieve a pre-tax and fees profit of £26,000.

Kieran said of the experience: "Amazing, gone past my expectation, nice to see we could possibly get a bit more, that's made my day. I'm very pleased, it's been a great experience for us."

Homes Under The Hammer is on Monday to Friday at 10am on BBC One.
