Homes set to be built on site of former Shiremoor pub

A scheme to build on the site of a former boozer are set to be approved by North Tyneside Council after its planners said it would bring "significant benefits" to the area.

SHN Homes is behind plans to build 13 homes on the site of the Beaumont in Shiremoor.

The site, on Park Lane, has been vacant since the pub was pulled down in 2010, and the builder says it "lends itself well" to development.

Authority planners backed the application saying that it would be good for the area.

A report to the council said: "The proposed development would bring significant benefits to the streetscene and the character of the area, would secure the future use of a vacant site and provide additional homes."

If the plans are approved the developer will have to sign up to a 'Section 106' agreement promising to pay £5,200 towards coastal mitigation works.

Under planning law, contributions can be sought from developers towards the costs of providing community and social infrastructure, which is needed as the result of new development. This funding is commonly known as 'Section 106'.

North Tyneside Council's planning committee will vote whether to grant the application next Tuesday.
