Homes plan could see 22 houses built as developer says project may 'benefit new school'

Blueprints have been drawn up to construct 22 new houses in Ayrshire.

Plans have been submitted to develop a 'modest' housing estate in Cumnock.

Based on land off Cameron Crescent, Jim Smith has applied for permission to build the residential estate with firm JKM Consultancy making a submission on Mr Smith's behalf.

A supporting statement addresses concerns that were highlighted in a 2015 representation, including roads and access, flooding, noise and open space.

On flooding concerns, the supporting statement reads: "The flooding potential was noted previously as a substantial risk, however a large proportion of the site lies at high level as shown on the site sections.

"We note the approved recycling plant opposite had a Flood Risk Assessment carried out which clearly showed no risk to most of the application site. This affected is shown on the drawings too. Given this we do not believe a Flood Risk Assessment would be required."

One local has objected to the plans and says traffic is already so bad in the area they fear a child will be seriously injured.

The resident said: "The traffic coming in and out John Alan [Drive] is terrible i'm sure a child is going to end up losing their life soon as people come down there far too fast.

"I cannot explain enough how bad the street is the now with having residents from John Alan and Cameron Crescent coming down the one way street. It will be total carnage."

But the supporting statement adds that developers believe the plan won't have a negative impact on the area.

A supporting statement reads: "The scale of development would not be detrimental to the local amenities and indeed may benefit the new school.

"We don’t believe the development would negatively impact on the Housing Land Supply and would potentially assist by providing much needed housing to the south of the town."

East Ayrshire planners will rule on the plans at a future date.
