Homes evacuated and smoke plume spotted after house catches fire in Clifton

Residents have been evacuated from their homes after emergency services were called to a house fire in Clifton.

Nobody has been injured as a result of the incident, which has left one house damaged by fire and others affected by smoke.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service and police were called to the property in Farnborough Road at around 4pm today (Saturday, April 17).

The road has been closed at the junctions with Southchurch Drive and Orford Road while emergency services deal with the incident.

It has also impacted tram and bus services throughout the area, and it is not yet known how the fire started.

An image taken by resident Jason Robert Watmore-Taylor showed smoke billowing from the property at the Clifton street, alongside police at the scene.

Inspector Luke Todd, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "Officers have been supporting our fire service colleagues in dealing with the incident and closing the roads.

"Thankfully no one was hurt and the damage was kept to a minimum.

"The fire was quickly under control and we hope to reopen the road as soon as possible."

A tweet from the fire service added: "Crews from Stockhill, Stapleford, Highfields, West Bridgford and London Road are currently in attendance at a house fire in Farnborough Road, Clifton."
