Treswell homes evacuated and roads closed for hours after 'serious' house blaze

Houses have been evacuated and roads closed for hours after a serious house fire in Nottinghamshire. The blaze broke out at 11.17am on Wednesday, July 6 in Cocking Lane, Treswell - near Retford.

Nottinghamshire fire crews are being supported by crews from Lincolnshire and Derbyshire - it has been confirmed to Nottinghamshire Live that crews were still at the scene as of 7.20pm on July 6. .It is not currently known whether there are any injuries in relation to the incident.

The roads surrounding Cocking Lane are expected to remain closed for "some time" after the incident. In an update posted at 4pm, a spokesperson for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue said: "Cocking Lane and surrounding roads in Treswell remain closed while emergency services deal with this incident. They are set to remain closed for some time. Thank you to the local community for your patience, please avoid the area if possible."

Detective Inspector Luke Todd, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “We are currently assisting Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service at an ongoing incident in Cocking Lane, Treswell. We were called to the scene shortly after 11.20am after receiving reports of a fire.

“Surrounding houses have been evacuated as a precaution and we would ask residents and the public to avoid the area and keep all windows and doors closed. Cocking Lane and surrounding roads remain closed while the emergency services deal with the incident and are set to remain closed for some time, so I would ask any motorists to please avoid the area and thank them for their patience.”

East Midlands Ambulance said in a statement: “We received a call at 11.21am on 6 July to a private address in Treswell. The caller reported a medical emergency. We sent the Hazardous Area Response Team, three paramedics in fast response cars and a double-crewed ambulance. The air ambulance was also in attendance. We are currently still on scene.”
