Homes evacuated and man arrested after suspected explosive device found at property

A number of homes have been evacuated after a suspected explosive device was found at a property.

Dorset Police have arrested a man on suspicion of firearms offences following the discovery in Suffolk Avenue, Christchurch.

A force spokesman said: “Dorset Police received a report at 9.35am on Monday 15 June 2026 that officers conducting arrest enquiries at an address in Suffolk Avenue in Christchurch had discovered a suspected explosive device.

“An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team is attending the scene, and a cordon has been put in place as a precaution for the safety of members of the public. This has included the evacuation of properties in the immediate vicinity.“

A man has been arrested on suspicion of firearms offences and remains in police custody.”

The spokesperson added: “We would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding as we respond to this incident.”
