Homes evacuated and major road closed following gas leak

HOMES have been evacuated, and a major road has been closed in North Lanarkshire due to a gas leak.

Emergency services have been called to the A80 junction with Cumbernauld Road and Knowe Road in Chryston due to a gas leak at a property.

Police said a number of homes in the area have been evacuated as a precaution.

Officers have also closed the A80 junction with Cumbernauld Road and Knowe Road amid the incident.

The force has also urged people to avoid the area.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “The A80 is closed at its junction with Cumbernauld Road and Knowe Road in Chryston due to a gas leak at a property.

“A number of properties have been evacuated as a precaution.

“Emergency services are in attendance, and the public is asked to avoid the area.”
