Homes evacuated after 'bomb scare' in Litherland back garden

Homes were evacuated in after a resident thought they found an unexploded bomb in their back garden.

Police were called to Hornby Boulevard at around 1.30pm today following reports of a bomb scare in the area. A local woman told the ECHO that a Hornby Boulevard resident found the 'device' while digging in their garden. She said around 15 homes were evacuated during the drama.

A cordon was put in place while police inspected the device.

A police spokesman told the ECHO that officers liaised with the  explosive experts, and found that the device was not a bomb. The spokesman said there was no need for a controlled explosion .

The cordon was then lifted around one hour later and residents were allowed to return to their homes.
