Fashion designers Antoni Burakowski and Alison Roberts, aka Antoni & Alison, run their studio from their four-storey Georgian home in Southwark, London – all raw brick, exposed beams and reclaimed furniture. The house was rotten when they bought it. “The surveyors said, walk away, but we fell in love with it,” says Antoni. A handsome panelled wood front door (from Lassco), which leads directly on to the ground-floor reception, replaced an ordinary-looking door from B&Q. The Fab Four once sat on them at the ABC Theatre in Northampton in 1963 – a wall-mounted brass plaque explains it all. Photograph: Michael Franke
Original flagstones in the basement kitchen. On the table, just seen, is a set of sage green Beryl Ware crockery, bought from a Women’s Institute shop when it closed down. Photograph: Michael FrankeThis reclaimed decorative panel is from a fairground. The pair trawl British seaside towns for objects like this, and once bought several illuminations from Blackpool. The doors are from Salvo and painted a 30s eau-de-nil shade (Refresh by Crown is a good match). Photograph: Michael FrankeThe spiral staircase leading up to the top floor. For similar lights, try John Lewis’s ceramic Oskar pendant (£65) or Trainspotters’ reclaimed 1930s glass pendants (£220). Built-in bookcases are glass-fronted and painted eau-de-nil, as before. Photograph: Michael FrankeThe top-floor room is devoted to designing. The pair discovered the desk near their front door, left out as rubbish (for similar, try Snooper’s Paradise in Brighton). For a similar trestle table and benches, try After Noah or Oxfam.
