Homer man charged with DUI in Orland crash that injured Tinley woman

Jan. 21--A Homer Glen man who police said had been drinking before he ran a red light early Sunday in Orland Park and caused a crash that critically injured a woman has been charged with aggravated DUI.

David L. McFadden, Jr., 21, of the 15500 block of Mallard Lane, also was cited with disobeying a traffic control signal and failure to reduce speed, Orland Park police said in a statement Tuesday.

Police said McFadden was driving a 2004 Lexus SUV west on 159th Street about 2:35 a.m. Sunday when he drove through a red light at the Harlem Avenue intersection and struck a southbound 2005 Dodge Neon on the driver's side, pushing the car into a Portillo's restaurant parking lot southwest of the intersection.

The Dodge Neon's driver, a 32-year-old Tinley Park woman heading home from work, suffered significant injuries and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn by ambulance after she was pulled from the vehicle, according to Orland Park police. She was in critical condition as of Tuesday afternoon, police said.

McFadden was not injured and told police he had been drinking, police said in the statement.

He was given a $300,000 bond at a hearing at the Bridgeview courthouse Tuesday and his next court date is scheduled for Feb. 17, police said.
