Homeowners woken in middle of night by police cars in Easton

People in Easton were woken in the early hours of today by police descending on their road.

The incident ended with several police cars in Belmont Street at around 2.45am.

One resident said she saw a ‘swamp’ of police cars – around nine in total – in the street.

Officers had followed a driver to Belmont Street following a crash in Stapleton Road earlier this morning.

A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving.

A police spokesman said: “We were called to reports of a non-injury road traffic collision in Stapleton Road shortly before 2am.

“A vehicle left the scene and was followed by officers and the driver – a man in his 30s – was arrested shortly afterwards in Belmont Street on suspicion of drink driving.

“He remains in police custody.”
