Homeowner 'sets up music decks then tries to hide guests' as police turn up

Police slapped a group of party-goers with fines after catching them "blatantly" breaching coronavirus rules.

Officers were called to the address in Runcorn, Cheshire, after neighbours reported hearing loud music.

Cheshire and Warrington were placed under the 'high' measures on October 14, owing to the high alert status of the boroughs, while Tier 3 restrictions were imposed on the Liverpool City Region, which includes Runcorn.

Cheshire police said when they entered the house, the owner had set up music decks in their living room and "was busy" trying to hide five party guests, reports Cheshire Live.

The force said the group had understood the current coronavirus rules in place in Cheshire, but still attended the gathering anyway.

Police said as a result of the "blatant" breach, all six people were fined £200.

Posting on Facebook, Cheshire Police said they don't want to stop people having fun, but residents "really need to stick to the rules" in order to reduce the spread of coronavirus.

A spokesperson for the force said: "We don't want to stop you from enjoying yourselves but we really need to you to stick to the rules so that we can help reduce the spread of the virus.

"Whenever there is a breach we will always engage, explain and encourage people to follow the rules, but sometimes no matter how hard we try we have to enforce it.

"Last night we visited an address in Grangeway, Runcorn following reports of loud music.

"Everyone at the house said they were aware of the rules, but still attended anyway.

"As a result of this blatant breach all six people were issued with £200 fines."

The spokesperson added: "Over the weekend it’s been really encouraging to see that the majority of residents across Cheshire have been sticking to the rules and are doing all they can to slow the spread of Covid-19.

"Disappointingly there are a small number of people who are breaching them."
