Homeowner left with £15,000 bill after uninsured driver ploughs into bathroom

A homeowner says she has been left with a £15,000 bill after an uninsured driver ploughed into her house .

Miranda Blackman was at work when she received a call telling her a vehicle had reversed up her drive and straight into her Saddleworth dormer bungalow.

The Fiat had left a huge crack in the brickwork at the front of her property - which builders have told her will cost around £15,000 to fix.

A section of the wall - attached to a gatepost - also appears to have come partly-detached from the house.

She later discovered the elderly driver was unaware her insurance had expired two weeks before the crash on Lichfield Close, Denshaw.

And single mother-of-three and tutor Miranda said cause she and her husband had separated before Christmas her house insurance policy was only 'basic' and did not cover the damage.

Miranda told Manchester Evening News: "When I got home I couldn't believe it," she said. "The car has hit the house with quite some force.

"I've had a quote from a builder, who says it will be at least £15,000 to put right. It's the latest thing in a nightmare year for me so far, after splitting up with my husband before Christmas."

It is understood the driver has now surrendered her driving licence.
