Homeowner distraught after knife-wielding burglars steal Christmas presents

A homeowner has been left reeling after knife-wielding burglars broke into his house and stole his Christmas presents.

The man's suspicions were first aroused when he returned to his property in Ashford in Kent, to find his front door open.

As he walked inside he saw two "brazen" burglars inside.

One fled while the other was stood in the kitchen holding a knife before pushing past the victim and also running away, police said.

The incident happened at around 5.30pm on Thursday, December 19.

Cash and Christmas presents were stolen in the incident.

Detective Constable Kirsty Gee, who is investigating said: ‘This was a frightening incident for the victim and a brazen burglary by the offenders who had armed themselves.

"I would like to take this opportunity to appeal for anyone who has any information about the crime to come forward.’

"Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to contact Kent Police on 01843 222289 quoting 46/241317/19."

As part of Kent Police’s seasonal campaign against burglary, officers are reminding residents to take simple steps to reduce the chances of them becoming victims of crime.

• Removing keys, cash and expensive items from view.

• Ensure UPVC doors are locked with a key as well as lifting the handle.

• Using timer switches on lights and radios to make your home look occupied.

• Locking away tools and garden items that could be stolen or used to break into your home.

• Security marking items such as bikes, mobiles and laptops.

• Installing a safe that is bolted to the ground or a wall.

• Keeping receipts and making a note of serial numbers for expensive items.

• Registering important items for free on  www.immobilise.com  – this can help us return them to you if they are stolen and then recovered.
