A Perth man has appeared in court after a pipe bomb designed to be used against people was found by police inside his home.
WA Police said the homemade bomb was found on the living room shelf of Michael Lee Dolan's Rockingham home during a police raid on November 12.
Officers were executing a search warrant at the house "as a result of inquiries by Rockingham Detectives", police said.
"Police bomb technicians attended the address and conducted an X-ray of the pipe bomb where they identified it as a personnel bomb containing gas cylinders, nuts and bolts," a police spokeswoman said.
"It is further alleged during the search police also located a flask containing ammonium nitrate, which is commonly used in the manufacturing of explosives, and two detonators."
Police also seized approximately 82 grams of methylamphetamine, a small amount of cannabis and drug paraphernalia during the raid.
Mr Dolan was charged with making or possessing explosives under suspicious circumstances and possession of a prohibited weapon, along with drug possession and trafficking offences.
He appeared briefly in Perth Magistrates Court and did not make an application for bail.
Mr Dolan is due to appear in court again on November 18.
