Homeless man stole £889 jacket from Bridlesmith Gate shop because 'it was busy'

A homeless man took a jacket from a city shop and was surprised to learn it had a £889 price tag.

Noman Hassan, 22, only took it from the Bridlesmith Gate shop because it was busy, Nottingham magistrates heard.

His solicitor Alias Yousef said that Hassan spent the previous evening at a night club and was still "tipsy."

He said: "It was a moment of madness when he went into the shop with a friend.

"He was homeless at the time and admitted the offence at the earliest opportunity.

"For sure, he did not realise the valuation of the jacket was £800. He is very remorseful and wants to put this behind him."

Hassan was also mystified to find some white powder in a pocket when searched by police officers. But he accepted having it, added Mr Yousef.

Hassan pleaded guilty to stealing a Moose Knuckles jacket worth £889 belonging to Flannels on November 16. He admitted having a small amount of cocaine at the time.

He was fined £330 with £85 prosecution costs and a government surcharge of £32. The drug must be destroyed.

Anthony Chung, prosecuting, said that Hassan walked into the shop and left with the coat. He was spotted and detained around the corner.

The court heard that Hassan now lives in Bentinck Road, Nottingham and has started a job involving working night shifts for a national high street chain.
