Homeless man kicked and punched as he sat outside shop

A homelessman was kicked and punched in a brutal attack by thugs as he sat outside a Liverpool convenience store.

Today detectives issued CCTV stills of a woman and a man they want to trace after the sickening violence in Walton which put the defenceless victim in hospital.

The homeless man, aged in his 40s, was sat outside Booze and More on County Road when he was set upon.

Detectives say the victim was kicked and punched by two people from a group stood outside the convenience store.

Such was the severity of what police termed an "unprovoked" and "brutal" attack, the victim needed hospital treatment for injuries to his back, head and arm.

The violence erupted around 4.25pm on Friday, December 18.

Merseyside Police believe the two people captured on close circuit television may have information into the attack.

CCTV and witness enquiries are ongoing.

Detective Constable Matthew Carlson said: "We think the man and woman pictured may have vital information to assist our enquiries, so if you know who they are please come forward.

"This was a brutal and unprovoked attack which caused the victim distress and injuries which left him in hospital.

"Violence will never be tolerated and we will take action to find those responsible and put them before the courts."
